Ipamorelin is a research peptide that stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH). It is composed of five amino acids and is thus known as a pentapeptide. Ipamorelin is often lumped together with CJC 1295, though they are two different compounds.
Ipamorelin was originally developed by Novo Nordisk Inc. It was investigated in phase 2 trials as a treatment for postoperative ileus, a condition in which the bowel stops functioning after surgical procedures. However, due to a lack of efficacy, it was discontinued.
Pharmacological profiling using growth hormone-releasing peptide (GHRP) and growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) antagonists has clearly demonstrated that Ipamorelin stimulates GH release via a GH-like receptor. Its selectivity for GH is similar to that displayed by GHRH.
